The Ultimate Music Experience is the largest Spring break electronic music festival in the country. The UME is typically held on the weekend of Texas Week. The festival has been headlined by a-list artists and groups like Tiesto, Skrillex, and Major Lazer.

We’ve already mentioned Clayton’s, and this won’t be last time. Clayton’s Beach Bar is the largest beach bar in Texas, and quite possibly the entire Gulf coast. Louie’s Backyard is another great club and restaurant that has an awesome view of the Bay. Clayton’s and Louie’s make for the best Spring Break parties and concerts.

Transportation to/from and around South Padre Island is easy! If you fly into Brownsville (BRO) or Harlingen (HRL) airports, shuttles are available for pick-up and drop-off. The shuttles are very inexpensive and will take you straight to your South Padre Island hotel. Once you’ve reached the island, don’t hassle yourself with traffic and parking by riding The Wave, South Padre Island’s free shuttle service with busses equipped with free Wi-Fi! The Wave’s route includes lots of stops across the island, making it easy to reach any part of the island.

If you get hungry, there are plenty of hole in the wall joints that will make you feel like a local! Harpoon’s is one great example of a restaurant that will make you feel at home. Other local spots include Dirty Al’s for seafood, Gabriella’s for some nice Italian, and Louie’s Backyard for sports lovers.

8. The Best Beachfront Hotels


South Padre Island is home to some of the greatest beachfront hotels on the Gulf coast. The Hilton Garden Inn is number #1 on TripAdvisor and has won the Certificate of Excellence every year since 2011 (they opened in July 2010). Other awesome beachfront hotels include La Quinta (Also top-rated on TripAdvisor), and La Copa Inn. The Hilton and La Copa also have Starbucks’ located inside!

Oct. 9-11 – SPLASH 2014 South Padre Island

The biggest LGBT party in Texas is coming to South Padre Island this Columbus Day weekend. SPLASH South Padre Island will kick off on Thursday October 9th with a “Back to the Future” party at Casablanca Lounge. On Friday Oct. 10th, the Comfort Suites will host the Beach Bash from 1pm-5pm. That night, the Heroes and Villains costume party will be hosted by Tequila Sunset. The following day will bring a pool bash at The Inn from 1-5pm. The weekend will then be wrapped up with the final party on the night of Saturday October 11th for the Pink n’ Purple Party at Louie’s Backyard.

October 3-5 – Sandcastle Days 2014 at Clayton’s South Padre Island

Sandcastle Days 2014 will be held on October 3-5 at Clayton’s Beach Bar in South Padre Island, Texas. The event attracts sand sculptors from around the world. Thousands of people come to South Padre Island each year to watch the sculptors build large, elaborate sandcastles and sand sculptures. Aside from the competition, there are many family activities available, such as sculpting lessons and treasure hunts! This is a great event to attend for families and individuals of all ages.

Sept. & Oct. Bands on the Beach at Clayton’s South Padre Island

Clayton’s Beach Bar will be hosting Live Music every Friday & Saturday from September 5th to October 31st, 2015. The shows will begin at 7pm and coincide with fireworks on the beach at about 9:15pm. Clayton’s is something that should be on everyone’s checklist of things to do when visiting South Padre Island. It is the largest beach bar in Texas, and arguably on the Gulf coast, and hosts a number of a-list concerts!

Isla Del Sol Fest 2014 Aug. 30-31

This Labor Day weekend, Schiltterbahn Beach Waterpark and Peninsla Island Resort will host the 3rd annual Isla Del Sol Fest on South Padre Island. The two day event will take place on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31. Isla Del Sol Fest on South Padre Island is a electronic dance music festival presenting some of the biggest names in EDM.
